Ridgewater College volleyball is one of the strongest two-year college programs in the nation. The Lady Warriors have participated in 12 NJCAA Division III National Tournaments, winning the championship in 2011, 2010, 2006 and 2002. Their efforts have led them to seven consecutive National Tournaments, playing in the championship match in six of those opportunities. Warriors Set to Open 2012 Season as Preseason #1

The Ridgewater College Lady Warriors are slated open the season as host of the annual Ridgewater Classic Volleyball Tournament beginning on Friday, August 24. In the first NJCAA Division III Poll of the 2012 season, the Lady Warriors were tabbed as #1. Ridgewater will open against NJCAA Division I opponent Dawson Community College at 2pm and will play the nightcap at 8pm against Ellsworth CC. To view the complete tournament schedule, click here.

The Ridgewater College Lady Warriors are again NJCAA Division III National Champions!!! In a rematch of the 2010 title game, an intense and competitive atmosphere produced the same result, a Warrior win! Ridgewater was able to lock down a 31-29 first set win, though let down 17-25 in the second set.  Extra points were needed in the third set, but Ridgewater edged Brookhaven 29-27.  An early fourth set lead was all that was needed as they sealed the championship with a 25-22 win.  Molly Hurrle, Kelsey Stommes, Taylor Elzenga and Hannah Smith were named to the All-Tournament team, with Smith winning MVP honors.

This is the second consecutive National Championship for the Warriors, the third in six seasons and the fourth title for the program overall.  The Warriors end the season with a 31-3 record, the best winning percentage in school history.

Two Wins Sets Up A Rematch of 2010 Title Match

With a pair of three set victories, the Lady Warriors have earned a spot in the National Championship match.  A quarterfinal match proved to be closer than seeding indicated, but Ridgewater prevailed with a 25-17, 25-22, 25-19 win.  This victory earned them a rematch with Rock Valley College, whom they met in the semifinals in 2010.  Solid play both offensively and defensively helped the Warriors cruise to a 25-14, 25-23, 25-14 victory.   Ridgewater will face Brookhaven College Saturday at 2:30pm for the National Championship, a rematch of the 2010 National Championship.

For the first time in program history, the Ridgewater Warrior Volleyball team will enter the NJCAA Division III National Tournament as the #1 seed.  Tournament festivities kick off Thursday with team practice and the tournament banquet. The Lady Warriors will open the tournament with a match against Davidson County Community College at 11am on Friday.  All matches are played that Rochester Community and Technical College.  To follow the tournament, you can head to the Rochester Amateur Sports Commission website or follow the tournament on Facebook.

For the seventh straight year, the Lady Warriors have captured the Region 13A Championship.  After splitting the first to sets 25-12, 23-25, Ridgewater closed the door quickly with 25-9, 25-18 wins to lock up the title.  This victory qualifies Ridgewater for the NJCAA Division III National Tournament which will be held in Rochester on November 11-12, 2011.  Cassie Ziemer, Molly Hurrle and Emma Sharpe were named to the All-Tournament team.

An inspired Western Technical College challenged the #1 seeded Lady Warriors with strong passing and defensively play, but the Warriors marched to a 3-0 win to open the Region 13A Volleyball Tournament in Willmar on Friday evening.  In the second match, Rochester CTC edged St. Cloud Technical College in three close sets. This will match Ridgewater and Rochester in tomorrow's 13A Finals at 1pm Saturday afternoon.  Ridgewater is currently ranked #1 in the Nation, Rochester is ranked #4.

The Lady Warriors enter the Region 13A Tournament as the #1 seed.  Ridgewater will open the tournament at 5pm today with match against Western Wisconsin Tech, the #4 seed.  Rochester, the #2 seed will match up with #3 St. Cloud Tech at 7pm.  Winners from today's matches will square off Saturday at 1pm for a bid to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament.

As the end of the regular season for all MCAC teams nears, Ridgewater already has their sights set on the post season.  After clinching the MCAC Southern Division Championship, the Warriors will host Rochester, St. Cloud Technical College and Western Wisconsin Technical College on October 28-29 for the Region 13A Tournament.  In the opening tournament match, #1 Ridgewater will play #4Western Wisconsin Technical College at 5pm, #2 Rochester will meet #3 St. Cloud Technical College at 7pm.  Winners from these matches will advance to the 1pm Championship match on Saturday.

East Coast Road Trip Concludes with a 4-1 Mark

The Lady Warriors won back-to-back matches on Saturday morning to finish 4-1 in the Coastal Classic.  A physically demanding tournament with five, best 3 of 5 matches in two days, challenged the team though the results were successful.  Ridgewater defeated Cape Fear 3-0 and the host team Brunswick CC 3-1.  The Warriors won't have a match until Friday, October 28, when they host the opening match of the Region 13A Tournament against Western Technical College at 5pm.

Ridgewater fell a couple of points short of an upset of Pasco Hernando CC, currently ranked #4 in NJCAA Division II, losing 13-15 in the fifth set.  However, two wins earlier in the day over Pitt CC and College of Southern Maryland propelled the Warriors to a strong first day at the Brunswick Community College Coastal Classic Tournament.  The Lady Warriors will be back on the court in twelve hours for a 9am match against Cape Fear Community College, followed by an 11am match with the host college Brunswick.

After clinching the MCAC Southern Division on Saturday, the Lady Warriors went on to finish off divisional play with a 3-0 win against Minnesota West on Tuesday evening.  Ridgewater recognized four sophomores, Molly Hurrle, Aimee Johnson, Hannah Smith and Karli Wendlandt who played their last regular season home match.  In a quick transition, Ridgewater will fly out to Wilmington, North Carolina, this weekend to participate in the Brunswick Community College Classic.

After a first set comeback win, 27-25, Ridgewater rallied to a three set victory over MCAC Southern Division rival Rochester on Saturday afternoon.  The Lady Warriors marched on for a 25-19, 25-18 win in the final two sets.  With the win, Ridgewater clinches the MCAC Southern Division Championship, for the seventh consecutive season.  This top spot also means that Ridgewater will host the Region 13A Tournament on October 28-29.  Ridgewater hosts MN West in their final MCAC Southern Division match of the season on Tuesday at 6:30pm.

In their last regular season road match, the Lady Warriors breezed past Anoka-Ramsey 25-10, 25-21, 25-21.  Each Ridgewater team member made contributions on the night as they improved to 20-2 for the season and 10-0 in the MCAC Southern Division.  Ridgewater will return home for a Saturday match up with Rochester Community and Technical College.  The Yellowjackets were ranked #3 in today's NJCAA Division III National Volleyball poll, two spots behind top ranked Ridgewater.

With a strong showing at the NDSCS Tournament, Ridgewater maintains their #1 ranking in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.  Rochester CTC remained at #2 with Brookhaven College (TX) moving up to #3.  Outside Hitter, Hannah Smith of Willmar was recognized as the NJCAA Division III Player of the week.  It is the first time that a Ridgewater Volleyball Player has been recognized with that honor by the NJCAA.

The Lady Warriors opened their three match road trip with a quick 25-14, 25-10, 25-20 win over MSCTC-Fergus Falls.  With the win, the Lady Warriors improve to 8-0 in the MCAC South, which qualifies them for the Region 13A Tournament at the end of October.  After their first weekend off in a month and a half, they'll travel to St. Cloud Technical College for a rematch on Monday.

In their fifth match in four days, Ridgewater returned home for a 26-24, 25-14, 25-17 win over St. Cloud Technical College.  The win moves the Lady Warriors to a 17-2 overall record, 7-0 in the MCAC Southern Division.  They'll travel to MSCTC-Fergus Falls on Wednesday and remain on the road with matches at St. Cloud Tech and Anoka-Ramsey next week.

Ridgewater made quick work of their opponents over the weekend at the North Dakota State College of Science volleyball tournament.  On Friday, Ridgewater had a pair of 3-0 wins over UM-Morris JV and Jamestown College JV.  They matched that result on Saturday, with 3-0 wins over host NDSCS and Bismarck State College.  These victories propel the Warriors to a 16-2 overall record and they'll return to Ridgewater for a Monday night match at 6:30pm against St. Cloud Technical College.

Despite dropping the first two sets and facing match point twice, the Warriors scratched out a 3-2 victory in Worthington on Wednesday night.  For Ridgewater, Hannah Smith had 21 kills, Taylor Elzenga had 17 and Kelci Viesselman had 16.  Molly Hurrle had 59 set assists and Aimee Johnson had 22 digs.  With the win, Ridgewater reaches the half way point of divisional play with a 6-0 record and improve to 12-2 overall.  They'll head to Wahpeton, North Dakota, for the NDSCS Tournament this weekend.

The Warriors closed out their recent home stand with a 25-16, 25-8, 25-20 victory over Riverland on Saturday afternoon in Willmar.  Kelsey Stommes and Taylor Elzenga provided eight kills each, Molly Hurrle dished out 21 assists and Hannah Smith notched five ace serves.  Ridgewater (11-2, 5-0 MCAC South) will travel to Minnesota West on Wednesday and proceed to the NDSCS Tournament Friday and Saturday.

Ridgewater continues to hold a lead in the MCAC Southern Division with a 25-7, 25-17, 25-17 win over Anoka-Ramsey on Wednesday night.  All 14 Warriors contributed to the win, led by Kelci Viesselman with 9 kills, Molly Hurrle with 23 assists and Hannah Smith with 4 ace serves. The 2011 Ridgewater Invitational was filled with intense competition. Out of the ten tournament matches played, only one match was a sweep.  Ridgewater battled each opponent, leading to a 2-2 record for the weekend. Victories of 3-1 came against St. Thomas JV and Jamestown JV, while 1-3 losses came to Iowa Central and NDSCS.  Hannah Smith notched 51 kills, 56 digs and 13 aces for the weekend. Kelsey Stommes added 42 kills while hitting .360 and adding 14 blocks.  Aimee Johnson locked in 73 digs and Molly Hurrle guided the offense with 161 assists in 19 sets played.  The Warriors (9-2, 3-0 MCAC South) will remain at home this week with a Wednesday match against Anoka-Ramsey and a Saturday match against Riverland.

MSCTC-Fergus Falls gave the Warriors all they could handle Wednesday night and them some. A late Ridgewater 1st set rally was crucial to the 28-26, 25-20, 25-9 win over the Spartans.  Despite ten Ridgewater missed serves in the first two sets, they had no service errors in the third, in a solid showing in the final set. Hannah Smith had thirteen kills and ten digs, Kelci Viesselman added twelve kills and Kelsey Stommes ten. Ridgewater (7-0, 3-0 MCAC South) will host St. Thomas JV in the first match of the Ridgewater Classic this Friday at noon.

A little over 12 hours after earning their first MCAC Southern Division win, the Lady Warriors captured their second win with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-21 win over Riverland.  Kelci Viesselman blasted six ace serves, Kelsey Stommes notched a team high 12 kills and Molly Hurrle directed a well balanced offense with 29 assists.  After two days off, Ridgewater (6-0, 2-0 MCAC South) will host MSCTC-Fergus Falls at 6:30pm in their conference home opener.

A battle of MCAC Southern Division rivals ended in a 25-12, 25-20, 25-20 win for Ridgewater Friday night in Rochester.  The Warriors relied on strong defensive play and serving to carry the workload in the MCAC opener for Ridgewater.  Kelsey Stommes notched 13 kills and 3 blocks, Hannah Smith added 12 kills and 3 ace serves.  Molly Hurrle guided the Warrior offense with 29 set assists and Aimee Johnson had 15 digs.  Ridgewater moves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the MCAC South and will travel to Austin for a 1pm match with Riverland.

In their first test of the season, the Lady Warriors notched four weekend victories, best among all teams participating in the Ridgewater Classic over the weekend.  Ridgewater swept NDSCS, Dawson CC and Central Lakes College, before wrapping up the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Ellsworth Community College.  Ridgewater now travels to Rochester to open MCAC Southern Division play on Friday.

Ridgewater College Volleyball has released their 2011 Competitive Schedule.  The Lady Warriors will open up the season by hosting their annual Ridgewater Classic on Friday, August 26th at 12pm, against NJCAA Division II powerhouse North Dakota State College of Science.  They will also host the Ridgewater Invitational September 9-10 and will travel to the Costal Classic Tournament in North Carolina in October. The Ridgewater College Lady Warriors defeated Brookhaven College in a marathon National Championship match 3-2. The Warriors claimed the first set 25-23, but dropped the next two 21-25, 23-25.  They fought back in set four to win 25-21 to earn a deciding five set.  Trailing 2-8 at the changeover, they fought their way back to win in exciting fashion 16-14.  Ridgewater finishes the season with a 34-4 record, earning National, Regional, State and Conference Titles for the year.  Emily Roelike was named Tournament MVP, Hannah Smith, Molly Hurrle and Macy McKay were named to the All-Tournament team.
