Meet the Coach

Tom Gruhlke
Head Wrestling Coach

Coach Gruhlke had this to share about himself:

"This will be my first year at Ridgewater after coaching 30 years at the high school level. My high school coaching career included winning 301 matches with several teams that competed in the Minnesota State Tournament and the 2003 BOLD wrestling finishing as undefeated and being crowned State Champions. I completed high school in Aitkin, Mn in 1976 and graduated from Concordia College, Moorhead, Mn in 1980 with a BA in Education, competing in the NCAA III Tournament twice. My high school coaching career started in 1980 in Bird Island and ended in 2013 in Eden Prairie with stops in Buffalo Lake - Hector and Hutchinson in between. Over those years there was 5 individual champions and many more individual individuals who placed in the top 6 at the State Tournament. There was one young man from Hutchinson, Jason Fratzke, who went on to the High School National Tournament his senior year and became a HS All-American in 1998 by finishing 4th. Jason then continued on to Ridgewater where he became an All_American for them also.

My wife Cindy and I reside on Lake Washington outside of Dassel, Mn and I have operated an insurance agency out of Olivia, Mn for the past 30 years. Cindy is an elementary teacher and is looking forward towards retirement. We have 3 children who are now all married and doing very well n their own careers. Along with that Cindy and I are blessed with two grandsons and can't get are hands on them enough!"
